Mesozoic Flora

The Mesozoic Era spans from 252 million years ago to about 66 million years ago and began after the end-Permian extinction occurred, which destroyed around 70 percent of all land species (Ghose). This era is most commonly known as the age of dinosaurs and reptiles, but those large animals would not have survived without the lush flora that existed during this time. This era had a very warm climate, being the perfect home for ferns to dominate the Mesozoic flora. Plants that we’ll explore on this website include conifers, ginkgoes, cycads, cycadeoids, and angiosperms. This era has three periods: the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. Click on the links above to see what kinds of plants were found during these three periods that made up the Mesozoic Era.
